TestFlight Betas

We start suspending or let time out all our released public beta versions ( currently 21 apps )

Reason :

There is literally NO feedback from users. The preparation and maintenance of public beta versions is a significant time factor, that impacts developing new apps and providing updates.

We detected that people even return purchased apps (especially pre-orders) in favor of just continuing using the beta versions without any compensation.

You also can see, that there are even days with a negative income. This trend is occurring repeatedly and also increasing and we cannot explain, only have strange suspicion, that some people do this systematically and with intention of actively promoting business demotivation and business damage. Apple does not forward any reasons for returns to us developers. Returns, even such massive, are completely opak to us. Crash reports are none registered, on the other side, we can see loads of registered usage “sessions” for the beta versions, so users obviously are working with the apps.

App sales significantly go down for all apps, that offer a TestFlight beta for the purpose of ‘try before buy’, contrary to any logical expectations. There is no measurable increase in sales, if we explicitly provide public betas for testing with new releases, rather drastic decrease in sales generally.

A(nother) real world example: We had exactly 4 (four) !!! preorders for JAX ONE Delay Extended. All of these 4 (four) sales were returned after the final release with a public beta for trying available. That’s the actual trend of customer’s moral. So we also probably will no longer provide any pre-orders (with intro prices) in the future.

It seems that people also forget about the tested apps very fast because these are free and there are always new releases of new apps the very next day for trying out and for buying something other elsewhere then, something that does not provide such generosity …

All in all and after 5 years of continuously providing public beta test compilations ( nobody ever has published and maintained so many public TestFlight and Mac demos as we ), we found, that providing public betas is completely contra-productive, unfortunately, specifically in the iOS music scene.

However we will continue with closed betas ( for known active beta testers ) with new releases.

    1. Ok, I’ll put you into the next beta cycle.

Currently we are implementing a trigger step sequencer/arpeggiator per channel instance (15) and an optional sample based drum module on MIDI channel 10.

And there araised a certain memory problem with Apple’s SceneKit for the 3D user interface, which has to be solved first.

  1. Hey would also be interested in the 101 beta if there are any slots left! Love all these new apps, bought a load of them myself n
